"Torah" is the first Five Books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. Mashiyach Yeshua quoted from the Book of Deuteronomy more than any other book of Torah and within this book are very famous verses like:
YHWH (Yahweh) your Elohim (God) will raise up unto you a Prophet from your midst, of your brethren, like unto me; unto him you shall shama (hear-listen-obey)... And YHWH said unto me, they have well spoken that which they have spoken. I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like you, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. Deuteronomy 18:15-18
It is from Torah (Genesis) that Mashiyach's coming is first revealed through Adam and Eve.
And I will put enmity between you (the serpent) and the woman (who shall bear Mashiyach), and between your seed and her seed; it shall shoof (bruise or crush) your head, and you shall shoof (bruise or crush) his heel. Genesis 3:15
Torah teaches us that "the seed of the woman" will bruise the serpents head, that "SEED" is Mashiyach!
The Prophet whom YHWH promised to His People is Mashiyach, he will ultimately crush the head of Satan. Upon his first coming Mashiyach Y'shua cast demons into a herd of swine Matthew 8:31, raised the dead John 11:25, healed those who were sick and tormented with demons Matthew 4:24 and Mashiyach taught Torah and by the Ruach haKodesh (set Apart Spirit) he wrote Torah on the hearts of those who follow him (Jeremiah 31:31-34).
Torah is the foundation of Mashiyach Y'shua, it is not a theology "about" God but Torah is His Eternal Living Covenant and Word revealed. Torah is defined as instruction in righteousness in 2 Timothy 3:16 and it is these instructions that separate righteousness from paganism.
He that turns away his ear from hearing Torah ("the law")
even his prayer is an abomination.
Any religion that does not teach it's followers to live according to Torah is little more than intellectualized paganism. It is Torah that separates those who are obedient to YHWH and His Mashiyach with those who prefer rebellion against the Master Architect of Life.
Torah is not difficult to understand, anyone can understand and see their souls come alive within the revelation of the Father and His Mashiyach. Torah is for everyone. Throughout the Tanakh are Hebrew terms like ger, toshav, goyee, magur, nokriy, zuwr that are used over 650 times referring to those who aren't born Jews or Israelites, Torah is for everyone not just Jews.
The Torah is the charter of the Malchut Elohim (Kingdom of God) as taught by Mashiyach, but religions, principalities and powers that oppose Mashiyach warn followers away from Torah. Why? The answer is that haSatan (the adversary) uses man's religions to distract people and make detours so people cannot be empowered to know about Peace, Justice and Righteousness. If knowledge is power, and it is, then your knowledge of Torah is knowledge that triumphs all other knowledge about life and the Kingdom of Heaven.
Torah contains the definitions of Grace, Love, Mercy and Justice and the basis of all Common Good or Hashlama. Shalom, Shalem, Shalam have their base in Torah, these are the basis of Peace, Wholeness and Completeness. Shleimut (wholeness) and tawmim (perfection) is the true destiny of every human soul. Elements of all religions that teach common good and peace can be traced to original Edenic and Semitic origins, but Torah contains the Edenic instructions that are revealed in Mashiyach as a complete message, whereas religion offers only a very small part of the answer, if anything.
Before we investigate Torah, let's not do the religious thing, or what most educators and intellects do when they approach Torah. Rather, let's take an assessment of how we as individuals already view Torah. What happens inside of you when you open up a Bible to Beresheet (Genesis) or D'varim (Deuteronomy)? Many people think Torah is too difficult to learn and understand, or that it doesn't apply today, or it was done away with, or it just got old, or Y'shua (Jesus) fulfilled it all and made it antiquated. Others say it was written by Jews for Jews. Some think it doesn't apply to Gentiles. Some pick and choose the parts they are comfortable with, some avoid parts that seem unfair or violent or feel is inapplicable for today, yet others think Oral religious Tradition is Torah and many have a "new" Torah called a "statement of Faith" or "my personal Doctrine".
What are your present thoughts and expectations when you hear the word "Old Testament" or "the Law" or "Torah"? What does your mind and emotions tell you? Are you guarded? Indifferent? Cautious? Do you trust your own instincts? Do you have confidence in yourself to learn new truth? Do you believe that your spirit can hear from heaven? Have you chosen to surrender your life for truth, peace and justice? If you have not brought your soul into unity with your Creator, Torah will be a sealed and hidden book to you. However if Common Good, Peace and Justice is important to you and your goal is to make a better world for yourself and others, then Torah will come alive in your soul and breathe new life and new resources within you.
So before we investigate Torah remember that no one is neutral, all of us have our own opinions that help us understand or steer us away from Torah.
The Hebrew Torah is translated into English but many elements of Torah are impossible to translate, we will look at some of these verses and ideas on this website. If you have not yet learned any Hebrew terms and definitions in Torah, then you've only learned a commentary or theology about Torah, another person's religious viewpoint. We will provide examples throughout this website of how religious and political views have been shaped over the Millennia.
What is the best translation of the Torah? The original Hebrew language is the most preferred, this is what we will endeavour to cover, we will look at Hebrew terms and definitions that affect our world view and our religious views and identity. The goal is to search into that which helps us understand our purpose in this Life, in Torah and Mashiyach. Most importantly we need to understand our true identity in this life and whether you are Jewish or not, Christian or Muslim or New Age or Buddhist or Atheist there is a universe of Mashiyach within Torah that awaits you.
There is a Jewish saying that "The Torah which a man learns in this world is but vanity compared to the Torah of Messiah." Midrash Qohelet 11:8
However, we can explore the Torah of Mashiyach today, right here and right now! My hope and prayer is to help provide some tools. Torah is a door to Mashiyach and a window into heaven, we must quieten any religious noise or distractions in our spirits so as to enter in, it's not difficult.
Wait on YHWH: be of good courage, and
He shall strengthen your heart:
Wait, I say, on YAHWEH.
On one level wait means, wait as in "wait for the bus", on another level it means to "wait in our spirit" or meditate on Him. In Hebrew the word is qavah, we need to go back to Beresheet (Genesis) 1:9 to see first time qavah is mentioned in Torah. See if you can find how qavah was translated into English:
"And Elohim said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place..."
You probably guessed qavah was translated as "together", the idea of meditating on YHWH brings us together with Him! Yes, qavah is translated as "gathered together", but how do we gather together with YHWH?
Let's get personal with Torah. The reality is that we "wait" on YHWH (come together) with Him when we choose Him and surrender to His Word. Hear O Israel means Listen, Obey and Do the Will of YHWH so that He (Perfection) can be formed inside of us.
What we eat, where we go, how we spend our time, how we understand HIS Time, how we treat YHWH and our brothers and sisters, husbands, wives, girlfriends or those at work will depend on whether we have chosen Torah to be written upon our hearts or not.
Torah is Spiritual, it changes us on the inside so our worldview sees the things of Mashiyach as they are through his eyes.
Torah is Holy, Just and Good.
Torah has plenty to say about the achariyt hayamim (latter days). The Ark of the Covenant will open (the ark contains the 10 Commandments) according to the last book of the Bible in Revelation, Yochanan the Prophet wrote:
"And the temple of Elohim in heaven was opened;
and the ark of His Covenant was seen in his temple:
and there were flashes of lightning and thunders,
and voices and an earthquake, and great hail."
Revelation 11:19 (AENT)
The Ark of His Covenant holds the present and future standard of judgement both in Heaven and Earth.
I pray that as you learn and study Torah your joy will be full in Mashiyach, in Peace and in Wholeness.
Torah is freedom, it's Life and it's Life abundantly in the Spiritual World of Mashiyach.
YHWH be with you,
Baruch Ben Daniel
