Faith

 

    "Faith" is one of the most contested words in the Bible which is quite understandable when we read verses like;

 

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

For by it the elders obtained a good report.  Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of YHWH, so that things which are seen were

not made of things which do appear."

Hebrews 11:1-3

 

     Let's remember the word "faith" is translated from the Hebrew original "emunah" so from a Hebrew perspective, a word that permutes into the word "emunah" is "man hu" (manna), which literally translates as "what is it".  YHWH gave manna to His children, teaching them about His faithfulness.  Imagine.  You're stuck in a desert and every day your food falls from heaven, you collect as much as you need for your daily needs.  Ever have food falling from heaven?  Here is one of the ways YHWH demonstrated to us what it means to be faithful.

 

"And Moses said unto YHWH, Why have you afflicted your servant? and why have I not found favour in Your sight, that You lay the burden of all this people upon me?  Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that You should say unto me, Carry them in your bosom, as a nursing father bears the sucking child,

unto the land which you swore unto their fathers?"

Number 11:11-12

 

     The context of this verse has the Hebrew word "aman" translated into "nursing father" or "like a nurse", a picture of course of the ultimate supportive nurturer, an infant is solely dependant upon his mother for life.

 

"And He brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if you be able to number them: and He said unto him, So shall your seed be.  And he (Avraham) believed in Yahweh; and He counted it to him for righteousness."

Genesis 15:5-6

 

     One of the most precious verses in Scripture where Avraham is credited for "aman" (believed) upon YHWH and then we discover how YHWH defined "aman" when He said;

 

"And I will make your seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto your seed all these countries; and in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; Because Abraham obeyed My voice, and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My Torah."

Genesis 26:4-5

 

     So now we can begin to understand what the word FAITH means as we look at the primitive root of the word.  However, let's also look at the Paleo Hebrew, the ancient pictographical Hebrew, root "aman" alef mem noon means firm, something that is securely fastened. But we could also see in these three ancient letters a definition of alef=strong, mem=mighty, noon=son, or strong-mighty-son.  In this sense it shows the relationship towards the father by his son, a most beautiful picture of a son who because of knowing his father's love towards him is strong and mighty of the things of his father.  Now isn't that something that every one of us desires?  Absolutely a beautiful picture!!!  Halleluyah!!!

 

     So now we're starting to get the ancient and original meaning of the world Faith.  We know our Father YHWH loves us, we all know and understand this individually and individually, and we all express our love to our Father in many ways.  But let's stop everyone and take inventory and ask ourselves honestly.  How does our Father in Heaven want us to love Him?  What does Scripture say?

 

"Because Abraham obeyed My voice, and kept My charge,

My commandments, My statutes, and My Torah."

Genesis 26:5

 

     It's very, very simple.  Ask Yahweh to write His Torah upon our hearts.  This is what our Saviour Y'shua taught us when he said;

 

"For this is the love of Elohim (God), that we keep His commandments:

and his commandments are not grievous.  For whatsoever is born of Elohim overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith."

Genesis 26:5

 

     How beautiful and wonderful are these words he spoke.   For whatsoever is born of Elohim overcomes the world!  This is what it means to be "born again."  The true evidence of being "born again" is that we have overcome the world, and the proof is in whether "we keep His commandments".

 

     The fact of the matter is that both Judaism and Christianity has put an obstacle in front of our paths.  Judaism and Christianity have made void YHWH's Commandments by their religious traditions.  So each one of us had to choose whether we are going to follow "the world" or whether we are going to have FAITH.

 

     Let's purpose in our hearts right now to be "strong mighty sons".  Even now we can turn our hearts to your Father YHWH and ask Him to do this work in us and we can believe (aman) in Him for this work.  It's His work in us, all we need to do is say "hineni" (here I am) Father, to do Your will.  Abba, write your Commandments on my heart.  Give me the strength to endure those who will mock me and scorn me for doing your will.  Give me the patience and endurance I need to keep your Word hidden deep inside my spirit and soul and let me live an honorable life before you my Father.  Let me fight for what is right between us.  You are my Father and I am your son (or daughter should that be the case).  Let nothing stand between us.

 

    If you've just prayed that prayer then my prayers are joined with yours.  Let me assure you that you would never make a sincere prayer like this unless the Ruach haKodesh (Set Apart Spirit) wasn't leading you.  Please understand that you don't need a rabbi, pastor or priest to tell you or guide your or show you how to have an intimate relationship with the Father.  You and I only need to have Faith.

 

     We need to exercise our faith each day and delight ourselves in our Father every moment.  Sure, we'll mess up, we all do but we'll swerve back on the road and keep going... all that those little episodes in the ditch do is raise our adrenalin a few notches and remind us that we're still in the land of the living.

 

"7. Now Y’shua again said to them, “Amen, amen I say to you that I am the Gate of the flock  8. And all those who have come are thieves and robbers if the flock have not heard them. 9. I am the Gate and if a man should enter by me he will live and will enter and go out and he will find pasture. 10. But does not a thief come that he may steal and kill and destroy? I have come that they may have life, which is abundant. 11. I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down his life for the flock. 12. But a hireling who is not the shepherd nor are the sheep his, when he sees a wolf coming leaves the sheep and flees. And the wolf comes and plunders and scatters the flock. 13. Now the hireling flees because he is hired and he does not care about the flock. 14. I am the Good Shepherd and I know those who are mine. And those who are mine know me. 15. Just as my Father knows me and I know my Father and I lay down my life for the sake of the flock.  Yochanan 10:7-14 (AENT)

 

     Notice that when Y'shua begins a sentence with saying "Amen, amen" that these are same root letters of the word "aman", this is a very beautiful exhortation.  Amen, amen is most often translated as "surely, surely, but now look at it with Hebrew eyes... "strong-mighty-sons"... I say to you that I am the Gate of the flock.  The Aramaic for gate is "TaREeH" in Hebrew it is sha'ar, in this context Mashiyach is opening to us a gate (sha'ar) of righteousness (tsedek) for us to enter.

 

     When we can feel our spirits being stirred by the Father to come to Him, it is because He has opened up a Way for us to come to Him.
